About the Artist
“The everyday experiences of people and places are the foundation for my paintings. I approach the canvas with an image in mind while allowing the subject to evolve with each layer – building up the surface to expose and emphasize the raw materials I am working with.
My work represents memories, relationships, and personal experiences, but equally as important is the paint in all of its aspects. With heavy applications of paint using brushes and knives I translate my subjects through a gradual construction of physical texture. The subject matter, whether it is a figure, landscape, or interior space has volume, and I am mimicking that volume by incorporating a sense of rich, dense, materiality in my work.
This approach to painting has been greatly influenced by my exploration of various sculpture mediums. My ultimate goal is to create images that connect with the viewer through familiar human experiences, and offer a profound visual experience of the materiality of paint.”

Daniel Curran was born in 1978 in the Greater Boston area. He relocated to Metro Atlanta in 1999. Until this point Daniel was a self-taught artist, but in the new millennium he decided to expand his horizons and broaden his perspective by attending art school.
Daniel’s focus in school continued with painting, but with access to various facilities he began to experiment, specifically in the field of sculpture, which in turn enhanced his painting style. Daniel now incorporates his love of sculpture in his paintings by “building” and “constructing” the surface, not just painting it. His images of people, cityscapes, landscapes, and interior spaces explore the elements of form and surface with a pervasive sense of personal style. Daniel reveals to the viewer a true celebration of paint. His paintings, rich with color and texture, demand you touch them.
Daniel graduated with honors from the Atlanta College of Art. He received his B.F.A. in Painting & Sculpture in the spring of 2005. His work has been shown in group exhibitions throughout Atlanta including recent charity events with GOAL and The Atlanta Furniture Bank. His work is also represented in many corporate and private collections in the United States and Europe.
